Let us make a very quick reflection on the science we studied concerning the human body. If you can recall, you learned that the human body is made up of several systems. For example; the Muscular-Skeleton System in P.6, the digestive system in P.5, the circulatory system in P.6, the respiratory system in P.6, and the reproductive system in P.6.In this topic, we are going to look at the Muscular-Skeletal System.
-
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to;
- State the components of the system.
- Mention what a skeleton is.
- Describe the different types of skeletons.
-
The Muscular Skeletal System consists of two major components and these are;
The Muscles
The skeleton

1. Touch your cheeks, arms, legs, and hands. Do they feel hard or soft
2. Touch your back and abdomen without undressing. Do they feel hard or soft?
3. Try to feel the parts of your body that are hard.Where in the body are these hard parts found? (Click on 'Activity' to write them down)

A skeleton is a protective and supportive structure of an animal's body. In the video below, we are going to learn about the Muscular-Skeleton System. Please get a book and a pen to write down notes as you follow the teacher.

Summary
Exoskeleton: This is the kind of skeleton that forms the hard outside covering of an animal’s body. The hard covering is called the cuticle. The exoskeleton is found in all arthropods.
The exoskeleton limits growth in these animals. For an animal to grow, it sheds the skeleton. This is called molting or ecdysis.
Endoskeleton: This is the type of skeleton that is found inside the body of an animal. It is made up of bones. The endoskeleton is found in all vertebrate animals.
Hydrostatic skeleton: This is the type of skeleton that is possessed by animals whose bodies are filled with fluid. The fluid exerts pressure on the body of an animal and determines its shape and movement. This type of skeleton is found in creatures.
